How To Install A Floating Shelf Brackets In The Wall

The process of attaching anything to a wall in a house can present a lot of challenges. Each type of wall poses different challenges. In this section, we will provide you with some advice on how to fit a floating shelf to different types of walls, and we will also explain our range of floating shelf brackets.

Our floating shelves have been turned down by countless customers over the years that were unable to install them on their walls because of the way our shelves were built. Even worse, we have had instances where we have delivered the shelf to our customers, only for them later to discover that the wall makeup was different than what they had anticipated, and the shelf could not be used.

Until now, the option of floating shelf brackets that can be mounted on solid walls only had been restricted to those that could be attached to a standard wall plug. Having decided to create our range of floating shelf brackets so that our customers could have greater flexibility and have the best chance possible, we decided to give them the best fighting chance possible.

We tend to recommend these types of wall fixings to go hand in hand with our increasing development of wall fixings, and are provided with the best quality wall fixings that are available (as having cheap quality, product supplied wall fixings is a pet peeve of ours).

Floating Shelf Bracket Product Description

Flat brackets with variable lengths are included in our floating shelf brackets. To make the bracket invisible, the wood shelf you purchase should be over 1.5 inches thick. Exposed flat dowel sticks out of each bracket welded to it.

Depending on the length, the bracket is welded with different numbers of dowels. Each product page specifies the number of dowels to be welded. They are connected to the shelf using dowels. Instead of round dowels, we use flat ones because they will leave some room for error when you are drilling mounting holes. You must have a perfect hole for a round dowel to be effective.

Step 1 – Marking Holes For Mounting Holes

The dowel locations on the back of the shelf must be marked after you receive the floating shelf brackets from us so that mounting holes can be drilled. Every bracket has different dowel locations. Don’t drill holes until you have the brackets.

Step 2 – Drilling Holes For Mounting Brackets

Our signature drill guides are recommended for drilling mounting holes. The bracket bars will fit perfectly into the mounting holes and be straight.

Using the drill guide, the shelf is mounted at the back. Two small screws are needed to secure it. Use the bracket to determine where drilling guides should be placed. Mounting holes can be drilled with a 1/2′′ drill bit using the drill guides. It is ideal to use a 12′′ twist drill bit because it has plenty of lengths. Ensure the hole location twice and drill it once after checking twice.

Step 3 – Locating Wall Studs To Fix Brackets

Stud finders are recommended for finding every stud. In this way, you are guaranteed to drill into a stud when you drill. Mark the studs with a pencil as soon as you locate them.

Identify your wall studs and hold the floating shelf bracket against the wall, comparing the holes to the pre-made mounting holes. The mounting holes for the flat mounting bar start at 1″ from the end, and are continuous throughout the bracket every 4 inches.

Excellent! It will be necessary to drill out new 1/4-inch mounting holes if they don’t. Attach the bracket to your wall studs. If a bracket is only installed into drywall, weight specifications are nullified.

Step 4 – Mounting New Brackets By Drilling New Holes

The bracket should be held up against your wall next to the studs that you marked in step 3. You need to mark your stud locations on the bracket. The mounting holes will be drilled there. Do not drill your holes closer than 1 inch to the predrilled ones.

After you have marked the studs on the bracket, drill 1/4” holes in the middle. If you are drilling metal, you should use a step drill bit to guarantee 1/4″ holes.

Step 5 – Mounting The Bracket On The Wall

You should line up the mounting holes with the stud markings in step 3 when mounting the bracket. Our recommendation for mounting is to use 11.2 wood screws between 1.5- 2 inches long. You can adjust the angle of the bracket by mounting the left or right side first. Before drilling the second screw, make sure the bracket is perfectly level by using a laser or a traditional level. Install the other screw and ensure the bracket is level before installing the rest of the mounting screws.

Step 6 – Slide Shelf Into Bracket Into The Holes

Slide the bracket into the holes after you have mounted the Floating Shelf Bracket. Due to the round holes and flat dowels, you will have some room for error. This should be enough support for floating shelves that do not have to support a lot of weight or objects. Put some epoxy in the holes to secure the shelf brackets to the shelf. It will bond to the shelf brackets.

Step 7 – Completion Of The Process

It’s now time to decorate the shelf. You may now place items and decorations on it! Depending on the number of dowels on the bracket, floating shelf brackets can support weights of 100 to 250 pounds when the shelf is included. Know how much weight your shelf can handle and don’t exceed it. We suggest using our heavy-duty floating shelf brackets if you need more weight and still want a floating shelf design!
